Deripaska’s proposed solutions

Deripaska voiced his reformist thoughts at the Krasnoyarsk Financial Gathering. The businessman stated that Russia requires a market economy with competition, foreign investors (from “friendly countries”), and the rule of law and that “state capitalism is a path to nowhere.” Deripaska also says that the time has come for the country to get rid of some officials and security forces:

They must somehow be reduced. A little stress always helps. Officials were reduced by two or three times, and law enforcement officers were reduced a few times. We are aware that this is a significant strain on the economy, and this strain is even greater on the economy because of the sanctions.

Alexander Uss, governor of Krasnoyarsk, who was sitting next to him, said that he was “ready to cut down” in response to this speech.
