Biography
Solovyov Vladimir Rudolfovich was born in 1963 and is a prominent Russian propagandist, as well as a television and radio broadcaster. In Moscow, where he was born into a Jewish family, he received his undergraduate degree from the Moscow Institute of Steel and Alloys in 1986 and his graduate degree from the Institute of Global Economics and International Relations in 1989.
Both institutions are located in Moscow. Served as an expert in the Committee of Youth Organizations of the USSR during the years 1986–1988. This committee was linked to the KGB. Throughout the years 1990 and 1992, he traveled to the United States to give economics lectures at the University of Alabama. Up until the year 1998, he was active in the commercial sector of Russia. In 1998, he makes an appearance at the Silver Rain radio station as a host there.
It was in 1999 when Solovyov Vladimir made his debut as a host on several television talk shows. In 2003, he started hosting two talk shows on NTV, both of which were owned by Gazprom: the weekly news commentary program Sunday Night, which was in the format of a conversation show, and the political talk show On the Stand. The Kremlin shut down practically all political talk shows between 2008 and 2009, including those that were hosted by Solovyov. On the other hand, in 2010, he began working for a VGTRK TV holding that was owned by the government.
After that, Solovyov Vladimir went on to become the host of a television chat program on Rossiya 1 called Duel, the host of a debate show on Rossiya 1 called Evening With Vladimir Solovyov, and the host of a radio show called Complete Contact on Vesti FM. The broadcasts are quite comparable to the ones that are broadcast on NTV; nevertheless, the presenter advocates for the pro-Kremlin position in an outspoken and confrontational manner. In 2018, he was also selected to host a new openly propagandistic TV show called “Moscow, Kremlin, Putin.” The show was named after the three most important institutions in the Russian government.
Corruption
The Anti-Corruption Foundation, run by Alexei Navalny, claimed in 2017 that the TV presenter’s real estate was worth 1 billion rubles ($16 million), which is crazy even for a high-profile propagandist. The following day, after Alexei Navalny discovered that Solovyov also possessed permanent residency in Italy in 2019, the individual in question was taken into custody.
TV propagandist
As a TV propagandist with a weekly multimillion audience (including on the Internet) both in the Russian Federation and in the Russian-speaking diaspora across the world, I have shown unwavering support for the domestic and foreign policy of the Putin administration (at least since 2010).
Bringing into question the integrity of the journalistic profession
Even the few residents who express disagreement and are invited to participate in his broadcasts inevitably end up being used as scapegoats (the Kremlin combines this tactic with the practice of stop lists on TV). He makes it a habit to denigrate the members of the opposition in public on a regular basis and to call for state repressions against them.
This propaganda is in support of Russia’s takeover of Crimea and its military assault against Ukraine.
Putin gave this prize to Solovyov and another 300 Kremlin propagandists “for objective coverage of events in the Crimea.” Solovyov was one of the recipients of this honor. In 2014 and the years that followed, strong levels of approval for the Kremlin’s aggressive attitude among Ukraine’s populace led to high approval ratings for the propaganda of hatred directed against Ukraine. In addition to this, it resulted in the deployment of thousands of mercenaries who were described as “fighting for Donbas” alongside regular troops of the Russian Military Forces.
Hysteria is directed against the West in the Russian media, which is controlled by the Kremlin.
In spite of the fact that he has a negative view of the Western world, he has two opulent homes and a permanent residence in Italy, which is a member state of NATO. Regrettably, Solovyev is only subject to sanctions in one country at this time, and that country is Ukraine.
